Bell Canada and Coca-Cola Bottling Company Pilot Canada's First Wireless and Cashless Vending Machine Technology Trial in Kingston, Ontario

March 31, 2005

Bell Canada in collaboration with Coca-Cola Bottling Company and technology providers cStar Technologies, Kaba Ilco Inc. and RSI International Systems Inc. today launched Canada's first wireless and cashless vending machine technology trial at the Ambassador Conference Resort in Kingston, Ontario.

The 90-day cashless vending machine technology trial is the first in Canada to combine both mobile phone and card key technologies operating over a wireless network in the same trial period.

A truly guest centric hospitality service, Ambassador guests can either swipe their hotel room key card through the vending machine's card reader or use any mobile phone to directly purchase and enjoy a variety of Coca-Cola beverages from waters and 100 per cent juices to soft drinks, juice drinks and ice teas.

Guests that use their hotel room key card or any mobile phone to purchase Coca-Cola beverages from a cashless vending machine during the technology trial period will find applicable charges appear on their invoice at final check-out.

cStar Technologies is providing the real-time wireless data management system that will allow the cashless vending machine technology trial to collect and manage purchases from both room key card and mobile phone users, as well as manage stock, health and welfare of vending machines. The application supports both attended and unattended Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions.
